Bert, Melissa and Broo discover some cave paintings, but Bert thinks there's a monster lurking in the caves. Meanwhile, after accidentally buying a five thousand dollar painting from Henri de la Possom, Cyril finds out about the cave paintings and wants to charge entry for them. Len Carlson's performance as Bert varies wildly in this episode. In some scenes he's great, in others he's got that typical 1980s cartoon woodenness. He's still got good comic timing, though. Bob Dermer is hilarious as Ralph and Lady Baden-Baden. I love the way Ralph desperately tries to hold in his anger after Bert adds peanut butter to the bouillabaisse. Lady Baden-Baden looks like a prototype of Nanny from 'Count Duckula', but with big differences: although both are hens with large builds, Lady Baden-Baden is a wealthy socialite with delicate-ish body language, a clipped English accent and an impressive wit, if a bit flighty, while Nanny is a dowdy, scatterbrained nurse with a prominent West Country accent. Michael Magee steals every scene as Cyril. You can tell he's having an absolute blast. There's the obligatory adventure scene, simply because Bert has a way of blindly running into danger, but it's a funny episode anyway.
