- When a monster is sighted in nearby Evergreen Lake, Cyril Sneer launches a major tourist trap in order to cash in on the monster-craze. Meanwhile, the Raccoons set out to see if the monster is real or not.
- While the Raccoons are out near Evergreen Lake, Bert is shocked when he observes a fire-breathing monster in the water! Melissa manages to snap a quick picture, but Ralph (who was not present), is unwilling to believe what the two saw, even refusing to print a story about the incident until they can confirm what they saw.
However, word-of-mouth circulates through the forest, and Cyril quickly decides to cash in, ordering all sorts of monster-related merchandise to sell incoming tourists.
A number of people soon come out to the forest, but Bert feels they need to get some more evidence for the Evergreen Standard's newspaper. Both he and Cedric go out on the lake in the evening, and encounter the creature in the fog.
In the morning, a large footprint is found on the banks of the lake. Local professor Smedley-Smythe decides to make a plaster impression for analysis, but the media and a number of patrons are convinced the monster is real.
Cyril Sneer then holds a press conference, claiming he intends to build a resort on the banks of the lake for tourists. This leads to him buying up a large area of land along Evergreen Lake for the resort.
Eventually, Professor Smedley-Smythe finishes his analysis of the footprint, and reports it to the Raccoons. Due to inconclusive evidence, he decides to go back out on the lake to find more evidence.
The group then heads out onto the river that evening, and encounter the monster again! However, Bert ends up being dragged by it...and it is soon found out that the monster is a mechanical contraption piloted by the pigs. It turns out it was part of a big scheme by Cyril to cash in. Bert tames the monster and causes it to crash on the shore.
With the monster exposed, tourism to the lake dries up, and Cyril is stuck with a number of land along the lake, and warehouses full of unsold monster merchandise.
