Reasonably good murder mystery plot with an ironic ending
The Final Gift begins with two old friends of Quincy (Jack Klugman) debating over the future of their small air cargo transport business. Charlie Barnes (Joseph Campanella) wishes to sell the business to spend more time with his new wife, whereas Max Carson (Tom Troupe) wants them to keep the company going. During a flight, Charlie and Max encounter mechanical difficulties and crash land. Max is badly injured and in need of a blood transfusion which Charlie provides since they are the same blood type. Initially it appears Max will survive, but soon after the transfusion he dies inexplicably. This coupled with Charlie having sudden episodes of illness before the crash even took place lead Quincy into an investigation of what is making Charlie sick and how did it contribute to Max's death.
This is a pretty interesting episode where we have both a crime that is featured as well as an investigation into multiple suspects which I enjoyed. My only criticism is that it seemed to take a long time to get the plot moving as the plane crash and Max's death don't take place until nearly 20 minutes in and at the halfway point of the episode, respectively. That aside, it is a very entertaining episode with good guest stars led by Joseph Campanella who was a familiar face appearing on a countless number of television shows over the years.
Overall, this is a reasonably good Season 5 episode with an intriguing plot and an ironic ending which I definitely recommend viewing.
