Brooke & Bakula; Scott & Shields, 8 June 2006
9/10

By this time, Brooke was making fun of the primadonna image she had accumulated with "Blue Lagoon" and "Endless Love"; that all she was was beautiful and nothing more.

Bakula was already established by the TV show, so he was meeting Shields as her equal, and Brooke worked off him just as well.

Taming of the Shrew meets the Blue Lagoon? The pair watch more like a couple of old Hollywood pros.

Not a screwball comedy, but a simplistic romance.

And for an episode of "Quantum Leap" it takes a different turn as well.

Too many pluses for this episode of a show that isn't really a favorite of mine, but I must admit, I am enjoying watching the occasional assortment of shows that air on Sci Fi every now and then.

Definitely Better Than "The Blue Lagoon" !, 7 December 2007

I don't like (Scott Bakula), or (Quantum Leap), or even (Brooke Shields) !! And you'd understand by now that I didn't love the most famous (Blue Lagoon) movie also !

Too far I know for any fans of the previous mentioned. But come to think of it : (Scott Bakula) is not a great actor and he's not my cup of tea, the main plot of (Quantum Leap) is marvelous and genuine but not that attractive all the time (to see "Bakula" as a woman also UGH ! That was horrible !!!), and when it comes to miss (Shields) I think you'll grasp easily that when you follow her as a child then as a pin up !! Well, you'd always feel something wrong or at least the taste would be strange ! True that she had at that episode's time one nice body and they didn't waste the chance at all to put her in that 2 pieces blue costume which makes us see her distinguished features, with one classic white nightgown, 3 romantic kisses, and one mud scene if you're queer enough ! BUT gentlemen and gentlemen ! Maybe I have a list of the most sexy 100 female stars (it actually exceeded more than 300 !) but you wouldn't find her at it !! So not to mention my original hatred for (The Blue Lagoon) as one of the most repulsive movies ever made ! Yet against everything, the strangest thing happened : I loved this episode !

So it's very rare situation I suppose which could make my comment something the very fans of all the previous menti.. I mean all what I hate ! Must read to figure out : for what exactly did I love it ?! As it's not their typical reasons !

Simply it's the script. I love the good one, and I adore it when it's perfectly done. Here the story is nice like a great movie from the 1950s or the 1940s. Maybe there wasn't some deep danger to be saved from like they wanted a pure romantic comedy, or to make us feel secure about them all along after the end !??, or maybe there was some scene but got to be deleted ??? Whatever.. ! I'm a screenplay writer myself so I'm familiar with the cases and the 100 nightmares which you'd face just to fulfill one dream like this ! Although there wasn't a catchy climax (only some sweet twist at the end) but it was all good : the thrill, the fast dialogue, the hidden facts about the characters, and more : the cinematography, the sentimental sumptuous music, the acting ! As (Shields)'s performance made me feel that she was in the wrong places, having the wrong roles, with the wrong people for all her lifetime !!! Plus of course (Dean Stockwell) as (Al). Aside from his effective chemistry with (Scott Bakula) and his great lines every time, this man was a genius as that very funny ghostly sidekick. It hasn't been in the history of TV that kind of complete harmonic relationship between the role and its gifted actor on one hand, and the long success of it on the other hand unless for very few examples. The only one of which I could remember right now in addition to (Stockwell) as (Al) is (Peter Falk) as (Columbo).

There were maybe the last days of the shows as I loved (fantastic, dreamy, dexterously written, directed, No nudity, No hype dull cinematography, No easy tasteless electronic music ..etc) before the crusade of (The Reality TV, The frantic forensic shows, The Shield !…etc). They were also (Donald P. Bellisario)'s memorable good days before him being in the swamp of (N.C.I.S) !! And finally it's the first time till now to watch a work by (Shields) and not to wish for (Elisabeth Shue) instead !
