Oscar Proud inadvertently pulls Zoey aside and asks, "Penny, can't you see that girl is a wh-", then realizes he is talking to Zoey and not Penny. He then repeats himself asking the same question. This is a nod to Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles, which is a movie set in the past and confronts obvious diversity.
After Zoey cries about her sick pet bird, Penny tells her that "maybe she should talk to Eddie Murphy". A reference to Eddie Murphy's character who can speak to animals in the Doctor Dolittle movies, which also starred Kyla Pratt, who voices Penny.
