Storyline

Harry is on a train returning from Edinburgh to London. He gets into conversation with a fellow traveller. This man is the poetic Shadbolt, but there is something about him that Harry cannot possibly know. Shadbolt is also a professional assassin and his presence on the train is no coincidence. He has been paid to kill Harry at a given time, a fact to which Harry must tumble for the ultimate show-down. Written by don @ minifie-1

User Reviews

Not a typical episode, taut and tense
23 January 2010 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Shadbolt marks itself from the start as an odd entry in the list of episodes of The Protectors. Quickly establishing its plot - as it must in a 25 minute running time - we learn that Shadbolt is a man, and a paid assassin. His target? Harry Rule himself.

Apart from an early few minutes with a mousy librarian, one of those great stereotypes, this episode is a two-hander between the hunted, Rule (Robert Vaughn), and the hunter, Shadbolt (Tom Bell). With two locations, the interior of a train from Edinburgh to London and a derelict patch of land somewhere en route, the action becomes tense and the mood claustrophobic.

An intriguing episode - it may not completely succeed but has enough going on to keep you watching.
