A group of mercenaries dressed as soldiers rob a bank, escaping by plane from which they parachute out. It is a demonstration to impress smooth villain Simon Sinclair whom they coerce into employing them on another job. For Bodie their capture is more than a job for he knows them from his own mercenary days and their leader, Krivas, killed his girlfriend. THE PROFESSIONALS – "Where The Jungle Ends" –1978 Episode six of the of the 1977 to 1983, UK, action-crime series, THE PROFESSIONALS. Gordon Jackson is in charge of CI-5, a group of men drawn from the SAS, Police and other law enforcement agencies. Their mandate is to stop acts of terrorism and threats against the UK.

A group of former mercenaries pull a bank job and make off with a large amount of cash and several safety deposit boxes. When the Police attempt to stop the gang's getaway, machine guns are pulled and used. Several Police constables are wounded and a couple of Police cars shot up.

The gang heads for a small airport where they steal a light plane. Off into the low cloud cover they head. A hundred miles later the aircraft is seen spinning into the ground. The Police discover that the wrecked aircraft is empty. The gang must have parachuted at some time before the crash, but where? Gordon Jackson's crack CI-5 team is called in to help. Since the job went off like a military operation, ex servicemen are suspected. CI-5 agents Lewis Collins and Martin Shaw draw the case. They soon discover that the gang is made up of mercenary types whom Collins knew from his days in the Congo.

The gang is lead by David Suchet, (in a pre, Hercule Poriot bit) a rather nasty take no prisoners, kind of solider. Collins uses his contacts from the old days and they soon identify all the gang. Now all they need to do is find them.

Suchet and his crew have taken all the stolen goods and presented it to big time crime boss, Geoffrey Palmer. It is an example of what the gang can do. Palmer likes their work and hires them for a big job. He wants them to hit a atomic research site and steal some papers. He has a overseas buyer with plenty of cash. Palmer tells Suchet that it will make them all rich.

One of the gang, Del Henney, is a bit homesick and sneaks off to visit his wife. CI-5 has the place under watch and swoop in when Henney shows. Into a room with Shaw and Collins he goes. The two CI-5 men give Henney a first-rate bit of "third degree". Henney is at first is reluctant to help. But when told he will be shipped back to Angola, he is more forthcoming in the information area.

CI-5, along with the Police, swarm the area where the mercenaries are hiding and soon flush them out. A lively fire-fight ensues with several deaths on both sides. Suchet is captured and given a right tune up by Collins before the cuffs are slapped on.

This is another fast paced and violent episode of a great television series.
