THE PROFESSIONALS – Everest Was Also Conquered – 1978

This is episode eight of the 1977 to 1983, UK, action-crime series, THE PROFESSIONALS. Gordon Jackson is in charge of CI-5, a group of men drawn from the SAS, Police and other law enforcement agencies. Their mandate is to stop acts of terrorism and threats against the UK.

MI-5 Chief Jackson is paid a visit from political bigwig, Michael Denison. Denison tells Jackson that a former head of MI-6 made a deathbed confession about the 20 year old murder of a government witness in a corruption case. Denison is in line for a high government post and wants the confession looked into quietly.

Jackson assigns agents Martin Shaw and Lewis to look into the matter. They go through all the records and come up with the name of multi-millionaire Richard Greene. Greene it seems was involved with plenty of underhanded arms deals and the like. There had been a witness to these deals that took a convenient 6 floor dive out a hotel window. At the time it was ruled a suicide.

Collins and Shaw of course dig further and find several cops on the protection detail at the time are rather well off now in the cash department. Questions are asked and more murders begin to happen. This all leads back to Dennison and Greene. Dennison has been on the Greene payroll for years. He had hoped for a swift under the carpet investigation by Jackson and his boys. This of course is not what Denison gets as both he and Greene are taken into custody.
