- Season 1 Episode 18 The Missing Night Watchman Prologue: A body is dumped off the dock into the water by an unseen man, both men were clad in suits. Meek Charles Quimby, owner of an antique store, hires Pete to locate missing jewelry, on consignment from a benefactor not tolerant of any shortcomings. He says the missing night watchman is gone, too. He doesn't want to report to the authorities as the same benefactor might take away all the consignment items if the risk is considered too high. The benefactor comes for the Buddha that was on consignment while Pete visits the missing watchman's apartment, Arthur Block, who is dead, and in the morgue. Jacoby wants to know who killed Mr. Block with a bullet from the mid-1800's. Ballistics and the coroner report details to Jacoby and Pete, TOD was 6 PM and the firearm would be considered an antique. Pete tells Quimby that Block was murdered, he faints, Jacoby heads to the antique store while Pete is headed to Lasdown, eccentric benefactor of Quimby. Pete gets very little information from Lasdown, the driver picking up his luggage, however, was most informative. Pete calls from his car telling Jacoby the delivery man is picking up luggage for a midnight flight and Lasdown plans on collecting all his consignment items from Quimby in the morning. Jacoby told Pete that Quimby was not home, lights off with door open. Lasdown calls in a burglary when a man inside his house escapes from the inside. Jacoby gets a taste of Lasdown, heading to New York on business. Lasdown learns it was his jewels stolen from the antique store and he is off to seek revenge from Quimby. The murder weapon was hidden in the belly of the Buddha, which Jacoby confiscates. Pete tells Jacoby to wait and follow Lasdown, he will bring you to the killer and thief. At the antique store, Lasdown forces an intimidated Quimby to shoot at him, Jacoby breaks in, shoots Quimby in the leg, he confesses to Pete on the stairs he shot Block, when he discovered Quimby stealing the jewels. That is when he hid the gun in the Buddha and broke into Lasdown's house to recover the gun from the Buddha. Lasdown says unfortunately the ambulance is on its way, and Quimby is lead away by the lieutenant and our PI.
