Okay episode, at best. The highlight may well be Edie's mouthing of Pete's words into the telephone as he again puts her off in favor of a friend in trouble. Albright's knowing expression from the many other times is priceless. Anyhow Pete's helping a Chicano friend whose son is suspected of murder. There're more flying fists than usual, along with a couple colorful characters, one of whom teaches guys how to take a staircase fall in order to defraud insurance companies. Nothing familiar about that. Unfortunately, there's not much noirish atmosphere; at the same time, the storyline unfolds in fairly familiar fashion, with colorful types providing info that leads Pete to the real culprit. But, please, Hollywood, stop with the pseudo-poetic lines that producers of the time liked to patronize ethnics with. Here it's the comely Margarita Cordova, a singer at her Chicano family's restaurant, who gets to wax phony poetic. In my view, it's a weaker entry than usual for this classic series.
