Perry Mason defends Margaret Foster, the wife of State Senatorial candidate Jason Foster, who is charged with murdering David Cartwell, stepson of incumbent Senator Randolph Cartwell. A few days prior to the killing, Jason Foster learned that his underage sister, Susan, was out drinking with David Cartwell. In a confrontation with Susan, she let it be known she plans to marry David but Jason tells her to stay away from him and that he will tell David to leave her alone. At this point, he confronts Perry about the issue. However, Susan visits David at his home, anyway. Margaret had gone to see David but found him dead. She grabbed the gun, recognizing it is Jason's, and ran, obviously trying to protect her husband or her sister-in-law. David was in debt to gamblers and had written a bad check in Las Vegas for $6,000 and Harry Mardig was there to collect the debt. A quick trip to Vegas eventually leads Perry and his private investigator, Paul, to the killer. Written by
