Storyline

Pat Keane visits a fortune teller at his request who tells her among other things that she can expect both riches and romance in the near future. She will marry wearing white but it will soon be followed by funeral black. At work her boss, the affable Max Armstead, gives her a promotion and again asks her to marry him. She meanwhile has met Gordon Evans and soon begins a whirlwind romance with the handsome young man. When Max Armstead has yet another heart attack, she decides to accept his proposal and they are soon married. After the wedding he signs his new will leaving everything to his wife except for $1 which goes to his son who left years ago under a cloud. Max is in Perry Mason's office not long after with an anonymous note saying his new wife Pat is already having an affair. Perry is bemused by it all. Later, while Perry is with Lt. Steve Drumm, Perry receives a call from Pat saying Max is acting very strange. Perry and Steve go to Max's house where they witness Max accuse Pat... Written by garykmcd

Quotes

Max Armstead: Look, will you do me a favor? - will you keep your sermons? I don't need a preacher, I need a lawyer - that - that's what I'm paying you for!
Perry Mason: You pay for advice - it's time you learned to take some.

This One Was A Reach
9 April 2012 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

This episode of Perry Mason finds him defending Julie Adams a young second and trophy wife for Jesse White. She was his secretary, but on the grounds of having her fortune told by an astrologer she marries White. Then White winds up very dead from someone tampering with his digitalis. As Mason was White's lawyer she inherits him as an attorney and of course that's a good thing.

I found this episode to be way too much of a reach and way too coincidental. This was the ninth season of Perry Mason and the writers were straining to find original stories that were plausible. This one just doesn't work.
