Actress Judy Tyler (Cherie Chi-Chi), had just finished making Jailhouse Rock (1957) with Elvis Presley. Tyler, her husband Gregory LaFayette, and another passenger were killed in an auto accident on U.S. Route 287 near Rock River, Wyoming on July 3, 1957, six months before this show aired. There has been much discussion as to whether this episode was, in fact, filmed as a second pilot for the series, as it bears similarities to the earlier episode The Case of the Moth-Eaten Mink (1957). The actual broadcast date isn't necessarily an indication of when the episode was filmed, as many TV shows were sold on the basis of one or more pilots plus, in some cases, some other episodes. Two examples of this are Star Trek (1966) and The Monkees (1965).

The killer is identified in the epilogue, which lacks the dramatic effect of having the killer admit guilt on screen and, thus, was rarely done in the series.
