A great episode from the first series of 'Paul Merton in Galton and Simpson's'

Arnold (Paul Merton), hasn't had much success with women, but he has a female pen-pal who is very attractive (she has used a fake photograph of a model, she's really called Primrose as-well). As they are soon to meet, Arnold knows he can't write back as himself, he calls himself Damon and sends a photograph of his very attractive deceased Father. They arrange to meet at Waterloo Station. Both are let down as the two figures each made up haven't arrived, so Primrose and Arnold begin to talk and go for a cup of tea. Both are upset that there dates haven't turned up, although it isn't revealed that each date was a character made up by each other. When they know each couple isn't going to turn up, they decide to go to the pictures with each other.

A great episode, with Josie Lawrence of 'Outside Edge' fame playing Primrose. As Paul's voice isn't very masculine, another actor was hired to do Damon's voice, so enter Michael Jaystone, who had played that brilliant character Neville Badger in David Nobbs 'A Bit of a Do' When I went to Spain for two weeks this year, I'd ordered the DVD of this the week I went and it arrived the morning I was going, so that morning I watched the first three episodes of this sitcom and this was the fourth, so when I got back home two weeks later at four o'clock in the morning, I watched this episode with a cup of coffee (the first for two weeks, I'm addicted to the stuff but I can't stand Spanish milk) and it felt so good to be back (even though it was a brilliant holiday). This was a re-make of a 'Comedy Playhouse starring Ronald Frazer and Avril Elgar from 1962, though the Elgar character in the original was called Freda, not Primrose.

Best Bit: Arnold saying how he got humiliated at school because of his name and he speaks about the name George, how nobody young should be called George, it is a name for older people and he has this theory that everybody should have a name change when they get to about forty.
