Star Power From A Great Davis Jr.
DKosty1231 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sit-coms episodes in the 1960's used to feature big guests. This one has Sammy Davis Jr. becoming interested in a campaign but a reluctant Patty Lane to come perform at her Junior Prom. Patty gets drafted to find an entertainer for the prom by the kids at a meeting despite protesting she can not do it.

Soon she is marching with a sandwich sign on Broadway. That is where Davis sees her and wants to help. Then there is a comedy of errors between the two of them until they meet briefly in his dressing room and formally at her prom. There are 2 songs with Davis Jr. and his band at the prom.

Meanwhile, Cathy goes to Variety and tries to place an ad. Instead of an ad they print a story about Patty's hunt. This article adds to Davis resolve to help and confuses yet another party and suddenly in a cameo, Patty receives a call from Peter Lawford. Granted this is a formula plot for this sit-com, seeing Sammy Davis Jr. perform is worth the fun.

Sammy Davis Junior Prom
JordanThomasHall13 July 2020
Patty is elected president of the junior prom, to her dismay. She is tasked with bringing in a major entertainer. She walks up and down Broadway with a sign petitioning a star to come to the prom. It attracts the attention of Sammy Davis Jr. (himself) who admires her effort. He fights with his manager Mike (Alan Manson) to go to the dance, but Patty doesn't believe his phone calls and thinks its a prank from Richard. Sammy Davis becomes determined to contact Patty on the phone, and Patty is determined to land a big star.

Patty And Sammy
sambase-387734 October 2021
This is my favorite episode of The Patty Duke Show. It has my favorite entertainer of all time, Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. And it delivers a wonder lesson about believing in yourself and not giving up. It's well-written and smart and creative and funny. And of course Sammy is superb at playing himself.

Can a certified superstar like Sammy Davis Jr. Relate to an unknown and struggling teenage girl? You bet he can. Because he went through rough times of his own. If you don't believe me just read the book "Yes I Can", by Sammy Davis Jr. And that's why he wants to help her. There's confusion along the way and that's where the laughs come in. And Sammy performs as well as only Sammy can.

Overall, it's an absolute treat to watch this wonderful episode.
