Storyline

Max Ledbetter is a friend of Reuben's who appeared on TV as a psychic. Reuben brings him to Tracy's birthday party. He ends his routine by predicting how Keith will do at the basketball game he'll be playing. And he sees Keith will make a spectacular shot. Now Keith doesn't play that much but when there are no more players that the coach can field in, he lets Keith play. And Keith throws a Hail Mary that not only goes in but wins the game. Danny thinking that Max is real decides to ask him to help him with his stock investment. Max who retired and opened his own bakery, is told by the bank that unless he pays his loan they'll foreclose and all he needs his $156. The final performance of John Banner
5 March 2014 | by (Youngstown,Ohio) – See all my reviews

"Who is Max Ledbetter and Why is He Saying All Those Terrible Things?" marked the final performance of John Banner, whose HOGAN'S HEROES had ended only the year before after six successful seasons (he passed away in his native Vienna Austria on his 63rd birthday, Jan 28 1973). Cast as phony psychic Max Ledbetter, he's hired to entertain at Tracy's birthday party, so Danny sees an opportunity to predict easy money. Unfortunately, Max too is desperate, hoping to save his bakery from foreclosure, telling Danny that if he doesn't receive $156, something bad is destined to happen. The featured song is Tony Romeo's "You Don't Have to Tell Me," the last episode to select a track from third LP SOUND MAGAZINE.
