Meredith Baxter as Jenny
kevinolzak16 March 2014
"Where Do Mermaids Go?" casts lovely Meredith Baxter in one of her earliest roles, as the titular mermaid, Jenny, discovered skinny dipping by the Partridges (Danny thought it was a dead perch), who invite her home for a short visit. Jenny is a free spirit, never in one place too long, who learns from Keith about how hard the family works to earn enough money to put the children through college. After Jenny departs, Shirley gets a call from bank manager L. J. Belson (Herbert Rudley), informing her of a million dollar deposit- the orphaned Jenny inherited a 14 million dollar business from her late father. The resulting turmoil wipes that happy smile off of the banker's face, with funny turns from Donald Phelps and Val Bisoglio (John Travolta's father in "Saturday Night Fever"). Meredith Baxter and David Cassidy were briefly an item, before she met and married David Birney. Two songs featured- David Cassidy's superb rocker "Love is All That I Ever Needed," co-written by Wes Farrell (previously heard in "Anatomy of a Tonsil"), from third LP SOUND MAGAZINE; plus the unreleased "It's Time That I Knew You Better," composed by Terry Cashman and T. P. West.

Sends an absurd message!

Why would the mother of 5 children, refuse the money to put everyone through college, especially when no one would be hurt? Jenny would have recovered the money within a few years through interest, and this is something she really wanted to do! So. WHY NOT?

This turns out to be a "no winner" sitcom situation, just like all the others!
