Storyline

Dr. Sam Stein has created the CAVE (Computer Aided Virtual Environment) system which creates a virtual environment that allows a medical professional to enter the mind of an individual to treat them. Their first subject, James Kendal, suffers from schizophrenia and while Stein was able to observe the psychosis, it will take a number of attempts to successfully treat him. Stein is quite shy and has never had the courage to tell a member of his team, Dr. Rachel Carter, how much he likes her. When Rachel is the victim of a hit and run however, he uses CAVE to enter her comatose body and intends to keep her company until she awakens. He is convinced that Rachel is conscious but trapped in her own body. A colleague can't help but wonder however if the Rachel Sam sees in the CAVE isn't just an image from his own mind. The explanation lies elsewhere forcing Sam to make a choice. Written by garykmcd

A Classic Twist
27 March 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

While I figured this out early on, it is certainly an engaging episode. A group of scientists have created a computer that can connect one human brain to another. The idea is for a psychologist to enter the thoughts of another to quell the demons that are haunting him or her. For instance, a man with paranoid schizophrenia walks through fire to confront what seems to be his father (or some other dangerous entity). By breaking free, he will be able to get rid of the voices telling him to kill his fiancée. One of the central scientist's colleagues is a very attractive young woman who has designs on him. He is painfully shy. One night he nearly tells her his feelings but can't go through with it. As she walks away, she is struck by a car and left in a coma. The plot then evolves around his attempts to enter her dream state and become a part of her consciousness. He is able to be with her and carry on discourse. Of course, there is a kicker. Lesson learned.
