Storyline

Lucas may have won the duel against his half-brother Nathan for the right to stay on the high school team, his first public game performance with the Ravens is a humiliating disaster. The Scott boys have a fight in class about their dad Dan, but their real strife is at home and with themselves, about their motivation and goals and their relationship with Peyton, whose cartoon talent impresses Lucas enough to enter her work which she hesitated since long to do, after finally making up his mind whether he wants to commit to the team. You know, its really too bad Lucas is poor and he can't play, because he is fine

This episode introduces Brooke. She is shallow, callous and totally lovable. Jake is also introduced, and its nice to see someone on the team is friendly toward Lucas.

Its interesting to see Karen and Lucas having a conversation on a porch swing that wasn't in the pilot, and therefore no more oddly placed conversation need the front curb. Another odd thing that occurred to me is why is Lucas blonde? Both his parents and even his uncle are brunettes. Weird casting choice if you ask me, but I'm very thankful for Chad being in the show.

Peyton slightly annoyed me by being so optimistic that if Nathan quit the team, then they'd have a happily ever after. Is she so blind to his arrogance and total disrespect toward her? In other ways she is so sensitive and insightful, but when it comes to Nathan, she is just dumb. The setup with Lucas noticing Peyton dump her sketches in the bin was so contrived. I mean talk about a co-incidence. I didn't believe that would happen.

Does anyone else sometimes have trouble understanding Hayley? Acting happy or excited doesn't mean talk fast. It's kinda annoying.

Overall a nice episode about the journey through fear, but marked down a couple of points due to the setup with the dumping of the sketches, not believing Peyton would be so clueless, and Hayley speed talking.
