Storyline

Things are so bad between the Scott half-brothers that they are thrown off the court for rolling over the floor fighting each-other during a game in a North Carolina hick-town, Pinkerton. Brooke is hurt and scams a strong painkiller from a med student, but takes an overdose which forces Haley and Peyton to give the 'drunk' a ride; despite car trouble, they'll have it relatively easy getting back home. Coach decides to punish Nathan and Lucas by making them walk some 30 miles, which turns out just the 'fraternal' male bonding they needed as they are not given a lift but abducted by local hicks who force them to go shopping in their undershorts marked 'Ravens suck' on their backs; even after doing so, their ordeal is far from over... On the home front, Dan and Keith seize the evening without the boys to take Nathan's mother Deb and Lucas's Karen out, but land in the same restaurant where they get into a fight of their own. Trivia

The number 23 is painted on a rock outside the school building. This is the number on Nathan's jersey, showing exactly how big a deal he is in the school, at least until Lucas joined the team. See more »

Goofs

When Brooke, Haley, and Peyton are in the car driving, Brooke throws her pom poms out of the driver side window but when the camera cuts to the outside of the car it shows them going out of the passenger window. When the camera cuts back to inside the car it still looks as if Brooke has throwing them out of the driver side window. See more »

Haley James: Haley.
Brooke: I don't like that name. How 'bout we call you Brooke?
[later]
Brooke: [the car runs out of gas]
Peyton: Brooke, didn't it ever occur to you, to put more gas in the car?
[Brooke says nothing]
Brooke: [to Hailey, who she calls Brooke] What are you gonna say, Brooke?

Great episode!
28 February 2006 | by (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) – See all my reviews

This is really one of my favourite episodes of One Tree Hill. It's sort of the beginning of everything. It's the first time that Nathan and Lucas really work together. Peyton and Haley begin to bond too and Brooke expresses her desire for a real relationship with Lucas. This is the set up for most of the rest of the season. It is also the same for the parents. Dan's obsession with basketball intensifies, as do his problems with Deb. His disregard for Karen is also emphasised and Keith's love is put into the open. It also becomes clear that Dan not only has a disregard for his family but also those around him as he insults the couple sitting with them at diner. I recommend this episode, especially if you don't like Nathan so much, this is when my opinion of him changed. If you like this one you'll probably also like "unopened letter to the world" from season two.
