Katy, the Meldrews' cleaner, is so taken with their bizarre lives that she writes a play about them, using recent happenings, such as Victor accidentally taking Mrs. Warboys to a tattooist instead of a dentist. Or how Victor found a finger in a fish-and-chips takeaway, or how the letter he helped the takeaway's owner write to an agony aunt was found by Mrs. Warboys, who thought Victor was in love with her. Or the giant fly delivered to the house. No wonder Katy's director finds it all so incredible.
