Storyline

David takes on a new look that, not surprisingly perhaps, reflect his new boss Neil's tastes. His already over-inflated ego gets a boost when a training firm offers him a handy sum for a 15 minute training presentation. Neil on the other hand declines the same offer saying he's too busy. The office has a bit of a celebration when one of the new arrivals from Swindon has a birthday. The gifts she receives are a bit on the risqué side but David stuns everyone into silence with his feeble attempt at humor. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

When David 'flips off' the camera (about 2 minutes in) he uses his middle finger, which is more popular in the U.S. In the U.K. this gesture is usually done by making a typical 'peace sign' (index and middle finger) but showing the recipient the back of your hand instead of the palm. See more »

Quotes

Rachel: You like that, don't you?
Tim: What?
Rachel: [picks up Trudy's brand new pink dildo] Is that because it looks like yours?
Tim: Yeah, it's identical, as well. Well, mine's not that size, it's very, very tiny. But it is made of plastic.
Gareth: Mine's massive and it ain't made of plastic!

"Don't let it out of your sight"
14 January 2009 | by (Italy) – See all my reviews

The Office's genius reaches new levels in this episode, which in some ways mirrors its Season One counterpart as to the use of sex-related humor and painfully embarrassing situations.

In the first series, as fans certainly recall, Tim received a huge inflatable penis for his birthday (and the present was given to him by Dawn and Lee, no less). This time, it's Trudy who's celebrating, and in pure office tradition she receives a provocative outfit and a dildo. While the latter causes a few problems for David, who's failing to impress both Neil and two potential collaborators, Gareth keeps hitting on Rachel (Stacey Roca) in a quite obnoxious manner, even though she's adamant she will only go out with Tim.

The writing, as ever, is spot-on, the balance between humor and bleakness remaining solid throughout the whole 30 minutes. The real value, however, is in Gervais' interaction with the dildo (yes, I know it sounds wrong) - it even makes his filthy Dalek impression look like a lazy effort.
