Trivia

Pat Morita's character, restaurant owner Mr. Wing, explains to Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman) that his restaurant is popular with college students because they believe it's "hip to eat Nip." During his days as a stand-up comic Morita billed himself as "The Hip Nip". See more »

Goofs

At the Japanese restaurant in which they are co-investing their money, Felix introduces Oscar to the restaurant's owner, his old friend, Mr Yamada. Every reference to this character is clearly "Mr Yamada" or "Yamada-san". In the end credits, however, Pat Morita's character is listed as Mr Wing. See more »

Quotes

Mr Yamada: [Felix's criticism drives away Yamada's chef, and then his inept cooking drives away the customers, as Yamada surveys the damage] Knife-hole in the wall - nice decoration. Charcoal eel. No more customers, which is OK, because I no longer have any help. That's a nice balance. Finally got even for Pearl Harbor.

O & F invest in a restaurant
6 June 2012 | by (southwest US) – See all my reviews

** Spoilers ** Oscar wins big at the track, so they invest in a restaurant. (Funny to see them get out of the apartment so early on in the show's run.) Felix had known the restaurant owner back in the heat of battle at GuadalCanal. Things don't go well when Felix doesn't like how the kitchen is being run, and the head chef quits. Pat Morita (from the Karate Kid films) guest stars. Felix fills in as chef, while Oscar tries to be a good waiter… even Murray the cop fills in as "Tokyo Nose" (direct quote from the show…) Of course, it's all a fiasco, the customers walk out, and Felix learns his lesson. Episode from the second season, directed by Robert Birnbaum and George Tyne. Tyne had been blacklisted during the HUAC hearing days, and you will see a break in his Hollywood career between 1951 and 1962. Some weird connections with R. Birnbaum.... He would go on to be production manager with Cagney & Lacey, which starred Tyne Daly (George Tyne... see above).. and Birnbaum also produced episodes of Happy Days, on which Pat Morita also starred; its a SMALL world after all.
