Peter (Michael Callan) takes an executive assistant position with the struggling Morgan Brother Food Company. His new employer Mr. Stringfellow (Martin Ashe) prefers a bachelor, which costs the company less, allowing him to quit his job and arrangement with Greta (Patricia Harty). He's unable to tell Mr. Brahms (Jack Collins) in person over his boss' invitation to dinner, so he writes a letter. When Greta begins giving demands he finds it easy to tell her they're through. The smug "free man" goes to his new workplace the next day to find Mr. Stringfellow has been fired and replaced with the Morgan's nephew H.K. Morgan (Eldon Quick), who will be the "new blood" Peter was wanted for. Peter now must try to patch up things with Greta and obtain his letter to Mr. Brahms before he reads it. Peter goes to the Shady Bar to recruit a seasoned thief named Filcher (Lewis Charles) to assist in "the caper".
