Kissing A Pig
22 April 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

James Garnar plays Nichols, native son who grew up in Nichols ,Arizona. He returns there after being in the service for years after he finds he does not desire to re-enlist to get a military pension. 's When he returns, he finds the old home town ain't what it used to be. His parents have both died. Someone else he does know now owns the old home ranch. Folks named the Ketchums run the place. He would almost certainly leave this town except he gets caught up in a bar fight over a woman (Margo Kidder) who Ketchum thinks he owns and does not like the way she looks as Garnar when she meets him. She is a bar maid.

After wrecking the bar in a fight, Ketchum decodes that Garnar should kiss a pig. So the gang brings a pig for him to kiss. Realizing that Nichols is a coward that is going to kiss the pig, Kidder shoots the pig and wounds the Sheriff (Sturat Margolin) in the arm.

Meanwile the Ketcum's brand new automobile has been stolen. This leads to Nichol's becoming Ketchum's new sheriff of Nichol's. Overall this is a solid starting episode to the series. I think the lack of ratings and interest in the show might be because Garnar had just done 2 Comedy movies where he is a Sheriff and this light dark comedy comes very close to those films in flavor.

Still, it is not a bad episode and it is out on You Tube in 5 parts where it can be watched. It is a bit of a TV departure for Garnar as this was the first series where he is not really a hero with all the answers but a dazed and confused coward with no real back bone.
