Inspired by real life: writer Joe Furey said he had a similar experience with a gym salesman who gave him the really hard sell.
When the staff goes into Dave's office to apologize, there is an anonymous extra standing at the back of the group. He was there to do a joke that the writers put in several scripts, and even filmed a few times, but unlike the "Joe's last name is Garelli"-joke, this one was always cut out. It was a gag where the anonymous guy would pipe up and say something after everyone else had their say, and the regular actors would turn to him confused.

On the DVD audio-commentary, Dave Foley tells that his hair was short at the taping of this show, because he had just completed filming The Wrong Guy.
Dave Foley is actually from Canada.
