It turns out annoying Dave Nelson makes for reliable subject matter, because that's a great deal of what's going on with 'Complaint Box', which is pretty much the show at peak performance. Mr. James is off fishing (present only through satellite link), leaving Dave in charge of handling each and every grievance filed by the staff (with each one growing ever more petty by the second).
It's pretty common sitcom material and has been used a hundred times since this episode aired ("The Office" did a great one), but it's still as fresh today as it was 20 years ago. And on top of that, when you throw in a bunch of classic Bill one-liners and Stephen Root being every bit as funny as usual (as nothing more than a disembodied voice), every last piece of this puzzle works in complete harmony.
This is perfect "NewsRadio".
