Quotes

Jimmy James: ...and that kid's name was Richard Nixon.
Bob Costas: I'm not sure I understood the point of that story, but it does remind me of another presidential sports story. The year was 1948, and a young baseball player by the name of Gerald Ford...
Jimmy James: Yeah, yeah, but the point of that story was that he got a hernia from eating too much. What, do I have to draw you a picture?

"...and that kid's name was Richard Nixon."

Awards Show' is that good old-fashioned underdog story, with WNYX staring down fearsome odds at the ABSAs. Spoiler alert, they win big. But up until that point, it's Mr. James trying to rally the troops with his Richard Nixon stories and iffy morality tales. I'm easy to please; if you give Stephen Root ample material, the episode's already a success. But Joe's alpha male jealousy over Catherine's dress is also funny (especially her frustration), and Bob Costas shows up as . . . Bob Costas, I guess, offering his commentator image up for laughs.

And I do love Bill's "Your last name's Garelli?" to Joe. It's such a throwaway line, and it's not the only time he'll say it. But it just seems to fit.

7/10
