Anne Haney Reprising Unhappy Happy Housewife Hostess
17 November 2012 | by See all my reviews

All I remember about this episode was sweet-sounding Anne Haney approaching the satire of the Happy Homemaker hostess that Betty White successfully created on the Mary Tyler Moore show, as Sue Ann Nivens.

Haney was shown in one brief scene as Bob Newhart walked thru during a rehearsal or something and he ruined the setup.

Haney continued on with the perkiness, but finally pressed, she exclaims "Okay, dammit, we'll have to do without the such-n-such" and as they moved her set out of the way, she issued a threat to Bob.

I knew about Sue Ann Nivens on Mary Tyler Moore, but it was interesting to see another Happy Homemaker striven for without conjuring up Sue Ann entirely.

Had Haney become a recurring character on Newhart, she would have truly been a much darker figure to contend with than Sue Ann ever was. Sadly, this was the only appearance she made.
