Pretentiousness reigns in this episode about Dick's willingness to accompany Stephanie in a high society fund raiser. Michael can't get off at the shoe store and so it's up to Dick. In Dick's fumbling way he becomes charming to a bunch of high rollers and is soon cavorting with them. At one point he meets Merv Griffin and they sing a duet, badly. Even when Dick decides to come clean, these rich people think it is part of the act. Meanwhile, George and Joanna realize that a mystery guest has checked in and they stay up all night trying to see just who he or she is. The guy even goes to the Minuteman while the boys are out.

Stephanie is going to high society ball in New York and Michael cannot attend so Dick escorts her.
An amusing episode and rare chance for Dick and Stephanie to interact with each other for nearly the whole show. Stephanie makes up stories about Dick being a hotel tycoon which makes him the hit of the party. He even gets to sing a duet with Merv Griffin! Alex Hyde White makes the first of three appearances as filthy rich Scooter Drake. There is also a bit of mystery to this episode as Joanna and George try to find out who is the guest who checked himself in.
