Jack Halford has been visiting a psychic in the hope of contacting his late wife, Mary, but gets information on another case. As a result, the UCOS team reopens the murder of Caroline Stillman. Some 20 years before, the young woman had been abducted and was subsequently found dead, having been locked in a shipping container on the docks and starved to death over a period of 42 days. They get little help from the dead woman's sister, Sarah, who wants to put the entire event behind her. As they interview those who were involved in the original investigation, they meet Martin Lombard, a clairvoyant who knew information that he should not have known. The original investigating officer, now an assistant deputy commissioner, thought Lombard had something to do with the girl's death, but everyone now seems to be more concerned about being embarrassed than finding a solution to the crime. Meanwhile, Brian, Gerry, and Jack must undergo mandatory psychological and physical testing for all ... Written by garykmcd

Did You Know?

Deputy Commissioner Bob Mullan tells the group that Martin Lombard had setup a mobile phone call to his solicitor who recorded the whole conversation whilst the team were trying to pressure him into a confession. The recording included the time when Lombard and Jack Halford were locked inside the shipping container. A mobile phone will not work inside a sealed shipping container as the steel walls will block the radio signals. See more »

Farewell Clarky and DAC Bevan
15 July 2017 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This is the season 1 finale, and also the final appearance of PC Clark (Chiké Okonkwo) and DAC Bevan (Nicholas Day).

UCOS's future is kind of in the balance in this episode, but thankfully New Tricks and UCOS were renewed for season 2. However the episode didn't end neatly, with the probable sort-of-killer getting away thanks to his sharp solicitor and unethical tactics of UCOS. The team start to gel and the writing becomes more confident.

One funny line was when one of the UCOS detectives (Halford or Lane) exclaiming, "You can really make money off the internet!". Wasn't before long that Facebook was launched and became a world power.
