The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972)

"The Caped Crusader Caper"

Scooby, Shaggy and the gang are out camping when they notice that the Joker and the Penguin are up to no good. Before long they're joined by Batman and Robin as they try to bring down the bad guys who have kidnapped a professor. As far as episodes in this series goes, this here really isn't all that bad, although it works better as a Batman cartoon than a Scooby one. I thought what made episode so entertaining is simply the camp value, which is off the charts. I thought all the one-liners from Batman and especially Robin were rather hilarious and there's no question that the writers had a blast coming up with words to put after "Holy." Another funny thing were the villains as the Penguin and especially the Joker are put to good use and manage to get a couple good laughs. There's a sequence on a bridge where they're in costumes that's quite good and I'd argue it's probably the best thing about this series up to this point. Scooby and the regular cast members are all put to good use so this here certainly stands out.

Episode: B
