The New Scooby-Doo Movies (1972)
"A Good Medium Is Rare"
Scooby and the gang are leaving a movie when they notice a poodle with a diamond collar. The address on it takes them to the home of Phyllis Diller who informs the gang that her house is haunted. Nautrally they start to investigate and come across ghosts, a demon and a couple bad guys trying to steal some jewels. "A Good Medium is Rare" is a pretty bland entry in the series, which once again runs too long and the writing just doesn't give us enough entertainment. The episodes in The New Scooby-Doo Movies were always very hit and miss but this one here is clearly a major miss, which is too bad. There are a few good moments scattered throughout this including the demon creature, which was actually pretty entertaining but he's used way too little. There are also a couple good gags early on with Scooby and Shaggy being scared at the movie theater. Outside of these things the rest is pretty bland. Diller's character comes across more annoying than anything else. The entire bit with her jewels being stolen are just a boring re-trend of stuff we've seen in the original series and nothing new is done here. As far as the mystery goes, it too is rather boring and just never adds up to much. This episode even makes the original gang seem boring.
