- Rabbit takes care of a small blue bird, named Kessie, after rescuing her from a snowstorm. After months pass from being with Kessie and she wants to go off on her own once she starts to learn to fly, Rabbit feels nervous to let her to do this after being with her for so long.
- During a windy snow storm, Rabbit manages to save a baby bird. Shortly thereafter, Rabbit takes responsibility for her and names her Kessie. During one stint where Kessie almost floats away in a soap bubble, Rabbit makes her promise not to fly again.
One day, Kessie goes off to play with Tigger, but almost ends up falling over a cliff until Owl helps save her. Owl offers to teach her how to fly, but when he mentions that this will enable her to fly south for the winter, Rabbit gets decidedly hostile, and forbids Owl from doing so.
Rabbit tries to make Kessie forget about flying, but the little bird longs to do so. One day, Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger attempt to help her, but are stopped by Rabbit. However, he ends up falling off a cliff, and it is Kessie who manages to fly and save him. While the others applaud her, Rabbit becomes dejected and goes home when Kessie mentions she can now fly south. That evening, Kessie asks Rabbit to read her a story, but Rabbit dejectedly says that she doesn't need him anymore.
The next day, Kessie prepares to go, but is sad when everyone is there to see her off, except Rabbit. As she takes off, Rabbit suddenly shows up, pleading to Kessie that she can fly, but just not leave. However, she soon appears to be out of range. Rabbit dejectedly leaves, but is surprised when a familiar laugh is heard, and Kessie swoops down to give him a hug, and say goodbye properly.
In the conclusion, Pooh and Piglet are seen watching the sunset, hoping for Spring to come early so that Kessie will return sooner. Piglet ponders Rabbit's emotions, feeling that it seemed he didn't really like her for the longest time. However, Pooh contends that sometimes, people can care too much...and believes such a thing is called 'love.' When Piglet wonders if they should tell of this thought to Rabbit, Pooh claims he believes that their friend already knows, as seated nearby, Rabbit is also staring off into the sunset, probably hoping for Kessie to return just as they are doing.
Rabbit saves the life of a baby bird, and raises her like his own, but she wants to learn how to fly.
