Storyline

In anticipation of a deployment to Iraq, a hospital corpsman third-class stows his personal gear, including a pickup truck, in a self-store room; after 10 months he dies in action, saving the lives of two Marines at the cost of his own life; his CO recommends him for a posthumous Silver Star; a hometown friend, acting on his written directions, opens his rented storeroom; however, the skeletal remains of a young woman appear in the bed of the truck; Gibbs and company investigate. Ducky says that the remains are those of a girl from the sailor's hometown who disappeared about two years previously. Abby provides much evidence, and, despite local resistance, the team identify the killer. Written by DocRushing

Trivia

Donald P. Bellasario make two cameos, both in season two. First, in "Hometown Hero," he is seen outside Abby's lab, tying his shoe. The second appearance is in "Swak", where he is seen in the hospital when Gibbs is interviewing the "rape" victim. In both cases, Gibbs gives Bellasario a quizzical look. See more »

Goofs

Gibbs acknowledges that he is a "former marine." Unlike other services, marines never consider themselves "former," even after leaving active duty. The question would never have been asked by a marine, and Gibbs would have bristled at it in any case. See more »

Quotes

Lt. Cmdr. Faith Coleman: Dobbs died as a result of enemy fire in Iraq. What bearing does that have on a girl who was killed two years ago in Richfield, Virginia?
Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs: You can never be too thorough.
Lt. Cmdr. Faith Coleman: You're pushing it, Gibbs. Why are you sticking your neck out for this guy?
Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs: Several Marines witnessed Petty Officer Dobbs saving lives. No one witnessed him taking one.
