Nanny's (Juliet Mills) long-time fiancé Cholmondeley Featherstonehaugh (Brian Bedford) arrives unannounced at the Everett household ready for marriage. He gets off on the wrong foot with Professor Everett (Richard Long) by finishing his sentences and cocksure mannerisms. He returns gifting animals for the children and a bottle of fine brandy for the professor. Nanny tells the family that she will be marrying, disheartening the children. The professor encourages them to show Nanny that they won't need her anymore. He does so as well. A letter puts things in perspective.
