Jack Frost is another funny episode of "Mystery Science Theater 3000"
tavm20 December 2007
Okay, I just finished watching this American-dubbed version of the Russian-Finnish Jack Frost on "Mystery Science Theater 3000" on YouTube. The girl playing Nastenka was quite beautiful and is obviously the "Cinderella" character here but I thought this film was about Jack Frost, you know, the title character who doesn't even appear until the movie's almost over? Good thing Mike and the 'bots are there to make fun of every boring and/or confusing scene that occurs. Too many riffs to mention here but there were several references to the "It's" character on "Monty Python's Flying Circus" including when we see a bunch of bearded men, "...a bunch of Michael Palin impersonators!" LOL! There's also a Yogi Bear reference concerning a bear character ("...pic-nic basket.") and one of three famous fictional pigs ("Wilbur! Gordy! Babe!") when we see three such-looking animals being led on a leash. Also loved hearing Mike imitate the "Benny Hill Show" theme when trees start running in under-cranked speed. The film itself actually looked beautiful (when it didn't get blurry) so I'm thinking the original unedited version in its native language was probably artistically superior but this American-dubbed one does seem cheesy much of the time. Not all of the riffs were hilarious but there weren't too much dead spots either so, once again, this was another nearly excellent episode of "MST3K".

Frostbite

This is my ninth favorite episode of MST. This fantasy film is no doubt an oddity, though not entirely of the best kind. This was supposed to be based on a Russian Fairy Tale which was their version of Cinderella, this film is a whole different version indeed. The darn tale doesn't make a lot of sense as it's kinda all over the place.

This episode had a lot of riffs that really cracked me up. I really liked how Mike and company were acting really sad about that Roasted Pork thinking it was Babe the talking pig. A scene with the witch with a house that stands up and walks (yeah I'm not kidding) and the protagonist constantly stomps his foot down making the house immobile, it's funny how the guys address the redundancy of that scene. Or there was one scene where there were these walking trees attacking the protagonist and then Crow says, "Give him dutch elm disease!" that really cracked me up.

Overall this episode is a slippery but fun ride.

The MST3K guys were on POINT this episode
Amthermandes28 June 2023
This remains to be one of my absolute favorite MST3K episodes ever, and contains some of my favorite riffs. The jokes were constant and brilliant zingers. Of course, the fantasy "magical realm" type movies were the absolute best fodder for the guys, but this one makes it almost too easy for them.

Full of horrible dubs, an atrotious script, even more laughable special effects, the only true magic is what Mike and the bots bring to the table.

It's a great starter episode for anyone who hasn't seen an MST3K episode yet, and it's an absolute MUST for any fan who hasn't gotten around to it (because let's be honest, there are a LOT of amazing episodes to joyfully wade through).
