The producers of The Music Scene were clearly fans of the "counter-culture" and/or "hippie" acts such as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Janis Joplin, and Sly & The Family Stone. However, one premise of the show was that they would play that week's Number One Hit Single. Unfortunately, the show arrived at the same time that "Sugar, Sugar" by The Archies hit #1 and stayed there, so for three or four weeks, the show had to play a song which was definitely NOT counter-culture.
