Kimball's ex Anne, Larkin's daughter, now Larkin-man Bill Richards's partner, steps in as captain of the Free Spirit and asks deputy Deputy Andy Broom as skipper. Shortly after he resisted Gantry's attempt to blackmail him into giving him a $50,000 loan, Kimball is found dead from a blow on the head, Anne arrested, causing another replacements parade. Sheriff Mort Metzger and Jessica investigate.

  • Cabot Cove is hosting a qualifying yacht race for the America's Cup and the competition is proving to be deadly. His main competitor is the rich Kyle Kimball who is almost fanatical in his quest to win. He has an expert race advisor in boat designer John Venderselt and will even resort to blackmail if necessary. Larkin's estranged daughter - and Kimball's ex-wife - Anne, an experienced yachtswoman in her own right, returns to Cabot Cove and decides to captain her father's boat. When Kimball is found dead however, she is arrested and it's up to Jessica to sort out the mystery and identify the real killer.
