- Jessica's excursion into the world of the fashion elite in Paris leads to murder, sweatshops and smugglers.
- Jessica is in Paris for a book promotion, and calls a friend, fashion model Carrie Quinn, who will be in the show that evening. She hears from famous designer Claude Faragere, he worries about his stepson Edmund, an ambitious professional rival. Armed only with a glass of champagne, Jessica startles and chases Baretta-wielding illegal Cambodian textile sweatshop worker Kim Huan who attacks Edmond Faragere's life in grief for his wife. Kim waits in her hotel-room, assuring he's glad she prevented his momentary hate to have irreversible consequences but doesn't dare take her advice to turn himself in. Jessica witnesses bickering at a competing fashion-house between designer Thea Vaughn, who cares for her label's name and quality, her husband Paul, who only wants to sell for profit, and assistant Denise Naveau who fixes the dispute. Afterward, Denise secretly calls Edmund the show can go on. Then Edmund is shot dead in his car. Huan calls and meets Jessica, telling his wife died in a fire in Edmund's sweatshop, but is arrested by Parisian Inspector Marc Gautier, who also believes him involved in Edmund's illegal Asian gem trade. Jessica believes in his innocence and the Vaughn fashion show inspires her.—KGF Vissers
- In Paris to work on the French edition of one of her books, Jessica Fletcher has the opportunity to spend some time with a friend, the attractive young model Carrie Quinn. Carrie has become quite successful as a high fashion model for the house of Vaughn. She's also seeing Claude's son Edmond Faragere who was thrown out of the family business some years before after discrepancies were found in the books. Carrie has been repeatedly warned that Edmond is unreliable and has had many affairs over the years. It's rumored that he is involved in smuggling precious gems and, in the past, in human trafficking. When Edmond is found dead, suspicion falls on Carrie who had just seen him with another woman. Jessica is convinced of her young friend's innocence, however, and looks into Edmond's past to find someone who might want him dead.—garykmcd
