Extremely offbeat

In this very strange pilot for the British series "Murder Most Horrid", Dawn French plays a traffic cop who gets miraculously transferred to the homicide unit to solve a murder. Well, not so miraculously: the chief inspector who authorizes the transfer is part of a secret cult, three members of which committed the murder! The idea is that she will bungle the case - but will she? It will probably take you a while to adjust to the unique sensibility of this fast-paced murder-mystery spoof - it's not quite like anything else I can remember seeing - but that's probably a good thing. The funniest scene is the one with Timothy Spall as a squeamish pathologist! *** out of 4.
