Warning: Spoilers
Dawn French plays a habitual confessor of both real and imaginary crimes; her latest "victim" is, supposedly, a missing bank manager. Local police sergeant Philip Jackson (taking a break from playing Chief Inspector Japp in the "Poirot" series) is used to her zaniness, but newcomer inspector Hugh Bonneville is getting increasingly frustrated with her. This episode has some funny moments (Bonneville's slaughtering of slangy expressions, Dawn's "He's covering for me! He's my brother!" when a witness, naturally, doesn't recognize her in a police line-up), but the story has perhaps the most predictable ending of the entire series. You will theorize what is most likely to eventually happen with a premise like this....and it does! ** out of 4.
