'Vice without versa'

As often in this smallish branch, a hit-man falls in love with his potential prey, a small blonde. The hit-man is played to the absolute perfection by Goodman, one of the show's notable guest stars.

COME BACK LITTLE SHICKSA tests another frame for a story—this time, in Hayes' absence, David's partner for detective work is Viola. Hayes went a bit to Chicago, at her family. In Hayes' absence, Viola plays Addison's sidekick, while Addison day—dreams. It belongs to Addison that, while longing for Hayes, to help another guy find the woman of his life. Which might even be a bit unwise; should one help a hit-man to find the woman who has reasons to believe she's searched after to be murdered? All these characters were supposed to be cartoons, mere comics—the intention of giving them a fake DALLAS/ SANTA BARBARA/ DINASTY romance 'depth' was a mistake. Look at FATHER KNOWS LAST, a further episode—it's very wrong. Why this soap opera _fakeness? Maddie and David were supposed to be funny cartoons, not romance protagonists in a corny soap opera ….

As an old fan of the series, I believe that turning MOONLIGHTING into a romance, a soap opera and an arc—therefore the jokes about the audience needing to be reminded what happened previously, was a mistake, an unsatisfying and inconsiderate thing to do, and a betraying of the series' gist. Addison's amorous anxieties are less interesting. Other than the hijacking of the series by the arch and romance element—the DALLAS gist, if thou will, MOONLIGHTING becoming a corny soap opera, the preeminence given to the younger sleuth Viola was a 2nd mistake. The less of Viola, the better.
