A vampire story with no vampire
27 May 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Legendary vampire hunter Ernest Chariot is visited by a woman requesting his services because she believes her brother is turning into a vampire. He refuses but his young protégé secretly agrees to help her and finds it is revenge that she's really after...

This is one of my all-time least favorite episodes of this series. There are just so many things wrong with this episode.

First of all, it's just plain boring. I can't accurately remember some plot points because I started daydreaming while watching it. There's no real sense of excitement, the characters were uninspired, and the plot is murky at best. There's not even anything remotely scary in this episode which is something I felt it could have benefited from because it certainly didn't have comedy, emotion, or suspense. It had a halfway decent Victorian era setting, that's it.

On to the actual plot. There really isn't much of one. It's never really stated why the woman and her vampire friend want revenge on Chariot. Also, why is she helping a vampire in the first place? Why isn't the vampire trying to bite her? There's no ironic twist to speak of in this episode either. Of course, I could be wrong about some of these things as I really zoned out a lot.

And finally we have the mask. The vampire wears a face mask throughout most of the episode; a silly, purple mask that barely stays on. When he takes it off, it looks as though he has a smudge of makeup on his mouth even though I think this was intended to be somehow scary.

I would recommended avoiding this episode. It's dull and the low production values of the series really shine through here.
