A college student who is unable to sleep ends up with bigger problems than insomnia...

I find it ironic that "Perchance To Dream" centers around insomnia as I found it to be the perfect cure. It's boring, slow-moving, makes little sense and has no monster. Not even looking at the beautiful Sarah Buxton can make it worthwhile.

The plot is rather ridiculous. Because Alex can't sleep, his dreams are coming to life and attacking him. You would think that since the dream world is involved that we would get some rather imaginative monsters but what do we get instead? A giant nun and a subway thug. If someone could come up with Freddy Kreuger then why couldn't the writing staff come with something a little more imaginative? Also, if they're his dreams, then why does his girlfriend get sucked in?

The sets are really cheap. It looks like most of the budget went to the special effect for the dream "monsters" and the dream world itself though these are not by any means spectacular. The college dorm room looks really low budget especially once holes start to appear in the walls and the floor and don't be fooled by the faux exterior shots at the beginning and the end as they're clearly just using tiny models.

I at least admire "Perchance to Dream" because it did try to do something different. Too bad it didn't really work. Instead of watching it, you'd probably be better off just going to sleep and attempting to dream of a better episode yourself, or maybe Sarah Buxton.
