A less than golden opportunity

Three people running a mining operation discover a chest full of riches but the original owner is not willing to part with it so easily...

"Fools' Gold" is an average episode. It's not the greatest episode, but it does deliver a few thrills. The troll looks pretty good and all the human actors do their parts sufficiently. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this episode is getting to see Jeff Conaway before all the excess weight and trips to rehab. But I must digress...

Jeff Conaway was, in fact, the highlight of this episode. Even though I wanted to scream at him to just forget the treasure and get out of there through the whole thing, his greed was certainly convincing as there are plenty of people who will risk life and limb to get rich. The female lead, Mary Cadorette, provides the voice of reason. It was a good balance between the characters' personalities, though a little predictable.

My main problem was with the events leading up to the ending. First, the troll is stabbed by Jeff Conaway and bleeds all over him, yet the troll survives this? Next, the troll grabbed the woman's leg as she attempts to dig her way out. It's already established early on that the touch of the troll can severely burn a human within seconds yet the troll clings to her for a little over a minute and her leg is fine.

This episode has it's good points but lost a little credibility with an over the top ending. It's still puts forth a good effort though.
