Fools' Gold
11 September 2011 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

There's this rocky cave with a treasure chest of gold discovered by members (Jeff Conaway, Mary Cadorette, and TJ Castronova) of a mining operation who encounter a troll protecting it. The troll has acidic type green blood and is afraid of sunlight (the reason is shown in the final scene). When the troll touches you it burns, so the three will have to avoid it if they are to get their hands on the treasure it is guarding. An avalanche will complicate matters. Make-up wizard, Greg Cannom's lone directorial effort was this little silly waste of time about the battle between humans and a little furry monster running around burning them when it gets a nice grip. The late Jeff Conaway (Taxi; Grease) is the wise-ass Phil who motivates the others to go after the gold, chock full of the fever. Cadorette is the employee always sorting through her boss' paperwork, tired of being a lackey. Castonova has been a miner for 30 years, and the wear of working underground shows (he has a favorite iron pickaxe and seems to know a lot about trolls, something told to him in stories from his mother as a child). But in going after the gold, they could be inviting trouble. The cave looks really cheap and it's the only set used for this episode. The treasure looks like something that belongs in a pirate ship. The troll actually does look like it left off the set of John Carl Buechler's movie into this episode. "Fools' Gold" is no great shakes, but I reckon fans of creature features might want to give it a whirl.
