"Success Story" is a weaker effort, with Ben Wright cast as Davy's grandfather, who's been led to believe his grandson a huge success in America, only to learn differently after Micky, Peter, and Mike try to pull off an elaborate deception, playing Davy's chauffeur, chef, and houseboy (famed stand-up comic Charlie Callas plays an ice cream vendor). Boyce and Hart's "I Wanna Be Free" gets its third airing (including the pilot), while making its debut was Michael Nesmith's solid rocker "Sweet Young Thing" (written in collaboration with Gerry Goffin and Carole King), recorded July 18. The sixth broadcast (Oct 17 1966), "Success Story" was 13th in production, filmed Aug 27-30.
