Michael Nesmith was actually a published songwriter before The Monkees were formed, and had met the same kind of unscrupulous music publishers found in this story. (Once he was cast, Screen Gems bought up his earlier songs so they could be used in the series.)
At one point, Mike tells Bernard Class that he's 21 years old. Though a couple of episodes of the first season suggest that some of the band members are underage, this marks the only time in the entire series that a Monkee member's specific age is revealed. At the time this episode was filmed, in real life Michael Nesmith was 23 years old.
Following the death of Michael Nesmith on December 10, 2021, MeTV aired four episodes of The Monkees as a tribute. In addition to this one, the other episodes shown were "Monkee Mayor", "Monkees In Texas", and "Fairy Tale".
Peter Tork receives in the mail, and is then shown trying to rip in half, a booklet called "The Hercules Bodybuilding School". This is a parody of an old "feat of strength" where someone tears a telephone book/directory in half with their bare hands to demonstrate how strong they are.
During the song "Gonna Buy Me a Dog", The Monkees are driving the Monkee Mobile around the studio lot. The removable top for the car is lying in a driveway as they pass.
