In this pilot for a proposed new TV series, Bill Parker is a kind-hearted, but meddlesome, middle-aged man who runs the rural Pine Lake Lodge in the mountains of northern California with his niece, Ann, who just can't seem to stay out of other people's business. Bill volunteers to build furniture for a new summer camp next door, but does not have the money or equipment. When Wilbur and Carol arrive for a weekend at the lodge (after they leave Mister Ed at home), Bill tricks Wilbur into cutting down a large pine tree that sits on the property of a stuffy businessman in order to use the wood, but complications set in leading to misunderstandings and a guilt-ridden Bill trying to cover it up. Wilbur and the Life of Riley
25 February 2012 | by (Los Angeles) – See all my reviews

Leaving a sad "Ed" (voiced by Allan Lane) behind to keep the barn vacuumed, Wilbur (Alan Young) takes Carol (Connie Hines) off on a weekend trip to "Pine Lake Lodge" run by old friend William Bendix (as Bill Parker). After the bad weather clears up, Mr. Bendix convinces Wilbur to help him cut down a tree in the area, which turns out to be illegal. This was a proposed pilot for a new TV series starring Bendix, who had previously appeared in the successful "The Life of Riley" program. There doesn't seem to be much of a show here, certainly no talking horse.

**** Pine Lake Lodge (6/25/61) John Rich ~ Alan Young, William Bendix, Connie Hines, Coleen Gray
