Into the woods..., 11 October 2007
8/10
Author: Edgewalker from Tuxford, England

Paper Dove is three things rolled into one, a standard Millennium investigation, a bleak comedy and a season-end cliff hanger. Surprisingly, it pulls off them all. The dank, out-of-season woodland is beautifully shot by Thomas Wright, so beautifully shot, in fact, that you expect Mulder and Scully to step out of it at any minute. The X Files made a signature of dark woods, but the more urban Millennium makes a good attempt at stealing their thunder here. Walon Green's script is remarkable for being both complicated and accessible in more or less equal measure and sets up the challenging and uncompromising season two very well. Mike Starr deserves a mention for a powerful and funny guest performance, check out the scene where he watches the TV report - it's a gem...
